Resurfaced Pool Deck, Patio & Driveway at Canyon Lake Home

This pool deck is one of several areas at this Canyon Lake, TX, home that SUNDEK of San Antonio resurfaced. The combination of Classic Texture and multicolor Aggregate Effects results in a pool deck that’s beautiful, slip resistant, comfortable on hot days, and easy to clean.

Homeowner Rick Graniere was unhappy with the pool deck at his home in Canyon Lake, Texas. Not only was the deck way too hot to walk on with bare feet on hot summer days, but it also tended to get slippery when wet, making Rick and his family uncomfortable about potential safety issues. The deck also had several stains that they couldn’t seem to remove. Wanting a solution, Rick reached out to his pool builder who recommended that he contact SUNDEK of San Antonio to discuss coating options.

That's when SUNDEK of San Antonio's sales associate Landon Snider met with Rick to discuss his existing pool deck’s problems. To Landon, it was pretty clear which product to use: SUNDEK’s Classic Texture. SUNDEK crews spray this acrylic water-based coating onto a surface then “knock” it down with a trowel’s edge, which is why it’s sometimes referred to as “knockdown texture”.

A Texas Star was incorporated into the pool deck’s design.

Classic Texture stays cool in the heat and is slip resistant. Because it’s a non-porous finish, it doesn’t absorb dirt, oils, and chemicals, making it very easy to clean. This tried-and-true product launched SUNDEK’s business more than 50 years ago. While this popular product can be used on any outdoor surface, it is most commonly used on areas around pools or other water features—in locations ranging from small residential family pools to large waterparks.

Among all these attributes, clients also love that Classic Texture can be combined with other design effects, making it customizable and fitting for just about any style. For Rick’s home, SUNDEK of San Antonio suggested using multi-colored aggregate effects. In addition to looking great, using aggregate effects also serves an additional purpose: hiding the appearance of dust and other debris in between cleanings. For an additional customization, crews added a Texas star to the deck.

For the patio and outdoor dining area SunStamp was the perfect solution because it looks great and is easy to clean.

When the pool deck coating was complete, Rick was thrilled with his new pool deck and its design. “SUNDEK solved all those problems for us,” he says. In addition to being happy with the deck’s slip resistance and how easy it is to clean, Rick was especially impressed with its ability to stay comfortable on scorching days. “On one of the hottest days on record in our area, we were able to walk on the decking,” shares Rick. “It was warm, but not hot.”

To resurface the expansive driveway, SUNDEK of San Antonio used Classic Texture in two shades of gray, giving it a design that differs from the pool deck.

In fact, Rick was so pleased with the work SUNDEK of San Antonio did that he contacted them not long after the pool deck was complete to discuss having additional work done. “We came out to take a look at the other areas and really start to see what their vision was,” says Landon. “That’s when the design wheels started turning.”

For Rick’s patio area, SUNDEK of San Antonio used SunStamp with a water-based stain in Mission Tan, topping it all off with a clear sealer. SunStamp is a versatile, custom overlay that allows crews to stamp customized designs on every project. For this particular project, crews included a custom scoreline pattern as well.

The homeowners’ 7,000-square foot driveway also got a huge upgrade with a coating of Classic Texture. Here, SUNDEK used two complementary colors, the lighter Tweed Gray for the main driveway and darker Smoke Gray for the border. They also incorporated a diamond scoreline pattern.

After having these three major projects completed on his property, Rick couldn’t be happier with the results, saying, “I would highly recommend SUNDEK to anybody.”
